East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State University has nominated nine outstanding undergraduate students for nationally competitive awards: The James C. Gaither Jr. Fellows Program, Barry Goldwater Scholarship, and the Truman Scholarship.
The nominee for the Beinecke Scholarship is Jasmine Jordan, an Honors College junior majoring in political science in the College of Social Science.
MSU’s nominee for the James C. Gaither Jr. Fellows Program is: Vishnu Kannan, an Honors College senior majoring in international relations, and political theory and constitutional democracy in James Madison College, and economics in the College of Social Science.
The nominees for the Goldwater Scholarship are:
- Isabella Ginnett, an Honors College sophomore majoring in physics and mathematics in the College Natural Science.
- Le Viet Nguyen, a junior and transfer student majoring in physics in the College of Natural Science.
- Abigail Otwell, an Honors College junior majoring in neuroscience and genomics and molecular genetics in Lyman Briggs College.
- James Schmidt, an Honors College sophomore majoring in computer science in the College of Engineering and physics, math, and data science in the College of Natural Science.
- Claudia Vondra, an Honors College sophomore majoring in microbiology and molecular genetics, in the College of Natural Science.
Jordan is also a nominee for the Truman Scholarship along with:
- Andrea Bair, a junior majoring in world politics in the College of Social Science.
- Maysa Sitar, an Honors College junior majoring in political science in the College of Social Science.
The Beinecke Scholarship pays for graduate school for students pursuing a research-focused graduate program in the arts, humanities or social sciences.
The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program is a paid research internship at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for 12-14 graduating seniors or recent graduates to serve as research assistants.
The Goldwater Foundation seeks sophomores and juniors committed to a research career in STEM fields with the potential for significant future contribution in their chosen field. Those students are given funding for undergraduate tuition and living expenses.
The Truman Scholarship Foundation recognizes students with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to affecting change through public service by providing them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students.
The National/International Fellowships & Scholarships (NIFS) Office, administered by the Honors College, helps interested undergraduate and graduate students pursue major national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout the competitive application processes.
